The Marco Polo
In the Finest Tradition of Cruising (cont.)
Raffles, for Informal Dining
By day, it has the flavor of a French Riviera cafe, the place to come for a
late buffet breakfast, a casual lunch by the pool, an afternoon tea of an
exotic cocktail. In the evening, it transforms into a fin restaurant serving
superb Oriental specialties from China, Thailand, Indonesia, and other
Eastern lands. Featuring indoor and al fresco dining, at tables for two to
no more than six, Raffles offers you a change of pace from the more
traditional fare served in our main dining room. Dinner reservations will be
required.
When you first enter out main dining room, you might think you're on the
Normandie or the Fance. For indeed, the Seven Seas Restaurant captures all
the elegance and gradeur of those long-gone ocean liners. Etched glass
partitions, graceful columns, Art Deco sconces and a Tiffany-style ceiling
create an exquisite setting in which to enjoy the culinary creations of our
chefs. Built on two levels to create intimacy, decorated in subdued gray and
pink hues, and adorned with fine linens and china, the Seven Seas will
provide you with many hours of dining pleasure.
Remember those old movie scenes where someone like Trevor Howard would be
sitting on a verandah in some colonial outpost, ensconced in a big rattan
chair, sipping a gin and tonic, and glancing furtively at someone like
Deborah Kerr across the way? That's the feeling you'll get in the Palm
Court, a peaceful enclave with huge picture windows, comfortable rattan
furniture and a hint of Somerset Maugham. It's the perfect place to watch
the world sail by, have a late afternoon cocktail or just read a good
book.
The Ambassador Lounge will be the hub of many of the activities abord the
Marco Polo. It not only acts as our main show room, but also is the place
where you'll hear talks by our distinguished guest lecturers, see a movie,
watch colorful folklore entertainment, attend briefings on shore excursions
and ports of call, and enjoy various shipboard events such as an afternoon
fashion show or a tea dance. Seating offers excellent sight lines, and the
room is equipped with the latest sound, lighting and video systems.
With a white baby grand as its centerpiece, this delightful piano bar is the
perfect spot to mingle with fellow passengers before or after dinner. As
your favorite tunes are played on the ivories, take a whirl around the dance
floor, enjoy a leisurely cocktail or some witty conversation around the Polo
Bar.
Our late-night hot spot has the carefree flair of the twenties, when flappers
were footloose and speakeasies had a naughty charm. Well into the early
hours of the morning our disc jockey will play everything from golden oldies
to the latest contemporary sounds. But the Charleston Club will lure you
even by day. With the Promenade Deck as its balcony, and picture windows
offering broad views over the aft of the ship, this intimate lounge offers a
delightful atmosphere for social gatherings.
You may now continue on to practical
matters...
