Neumeyer Channel and Port Lockroy
Passing between the soaring cliffs of the breathtaking Neumeyer Channel, we
arrive at one of Antarctica's most exciting anchorages: Port Lockroy.
Although surrounded by high mountains, some over 10,000 feet, Port Lockroy
usually boasts good weather. It is here that Winston Churchill established a
secret British station during World War II, now overrun by a huge gentoo
rookery. We'll also find blue eyed shag (cormorants) nesting here, and
witness sad reminders of past whaling activities.
