Adelaide Island
Our first landfall south of the Antarctic Circle, where during these austral
summer months day never slips into night. One of the larger islands of
Antarctica, it is the home of a British base, and was subject to recent
controversy when the British built an airstrip here.
From the 1994 Orient Lines Grand Antarctic Circumnavigation brochure...

islands of Antarctica and is home to the British scientific base, Rothera.
Recently, the island was the subject of controversy when a new airstrip was
built.
