Glaciers along the Beagle Channel
January 28, 1994
There were four glaciers, of which I saw and photographed two (the last two,
and most spectacular according to the crew). The first of these two was the
Italy glacier, named in honor of Italy for some reason. I remember that all
four were named after European countries. The first of the series was
L'Allemand, or Germany, which we didn't see because we were eating
breakfast.

The vistas here were absolutely spectacular. High, sculpted mountains coming
down through shrubbery and close grass mantles to the water, with rushing,
tumbling streams everywhere from the melting ice caps and glaciers.
